Parliament

The Parliament building sits on the Danube with its primary facade facing the river. On the street side the building sits on a square with two other spectacular buildings on adjacent sides of the square. Both of those buildings were also finalists in the design competition for the Parliamemt and were so admired that both were built along with the winning design.

We had a great tour of the interior including one of the legislative chambers, and also the Crown Jewels and scepter of Hungary. No photos were allowed of the Crown Jewels so no photos to see of that. It was also interesting to learn that at the outbreak of WWI the Crown Jewels were sent to Fort Knox in the US for safe keeping.  The US ended up holding these precious national treasures for over 60 years until Hungary was freed from the domination of the Soviet Union.  These symbols of the country were and are extremely important to populace and are national treasures to protect at any cost.

The photos of our visit to The Parliament building are in the Photo,Albums section of this blog.
